KENTUCKY CLUB LAMB ASSOCIATION
The annual awards and meeting of the Kentucky Club Lamb Association meeting was held October 27, 2007 at the Clark County Extension Office. Everyone who attended enjoyed a dessert and appetizers before the awards presentation. Amber Combs and Megan Minch were elected by the youth as the two new Junior Directors and will serve one-year terms. Allen Hinkle was elected as the President along with Todd Yazell, vice president; Kay Comer, secretary; Dorothy Vale, treasurer. Bob Leer will do the points and Dorothy Vale will do advertising/marketing for KCLA. The 2008 Club Lamb Auction will be Friday, April 12, 2008 in Georgetown at 7:30pm. The auction is the largest club lamb auction in Kentucky and will have over 50 wethers and ewes from best breeders in the state.
Awards for youth are divided into five age groups based on age as of January 1 of the current year Novice (8 and under), Clover (9 to 11), Junior (12 to 13) Intermediate (14 to 16), and Senior (17 to 21). There is also a TOP TEN, which is based on overall points.
Youth accumulate points
in five areas and a minimum of 100 points must be accumulated to receive
awards:
1. KENTUCKY BRED POINTS
2. LEADERSHIP & COMMUNITY SERVICE
3. SHOWMANSHIP POINTS AWARDS
4. SHOWING MARKET LAMBS 5. NAILE – Youth can receive 5 bonus points for showing market lambs.
Twelve Novice competed with the
winner receiving a belt buckle. Second to fifth Novice received blue
KCLA Hoodies and sixth received blue KCLA T-shirt.
Thirteen Clovers (9 to 11) competed with the winner receiving a belt buckle. Second to Fifth Clovers received blue KCLA Hoodies and sixth and tenth received blue KCLA T-shirts.
Six Juniors (12-13) competed with the winner receiving a belt buckle. Second to Fourth Intermediate received blue KCLA Hoodie.
Sixteen Intermediate (14-16) competed with the winner receiving a belt buckle. Second to Fifth Intermediate received blue KCLA Hoodie and sixth and ninth received blue KCLA T-shirts.
Eleven seniors (17 - 21) competed with the winner receiving a belt buckle. Second to Fifth Intermediate received blue KCLA Hoodie and sixth and eigth received blue KCLA T-shirt.
The Top Ten OVEREALL received blue KCLA Vest.
The Top Showmanship in each division received a KCLA Sheep Blanket with overall winner receiving a belt buckle.
